For many years I have travelled to Algonquin Park to photograph, explore, and escape the relentless mid-summer heat and humidity of Windsor. As a child, my family holidayed on the Muskoka River at my uncle’s cottage.
I gathered the video with a Flip video cam duct taped to the car window driving on Highway 60 in Algonquin Park. The Flip recorded as I drove – the imagery collected unknown until review. The car functioned as a (not so) steady cam recording continuous tracking shots. Driving at 80 kph produced interesting blurs of pixel drag. Slower speeds show lakes, campgrounds, and campers in the park.
The video celebrates and questions the pleasures of Algonquin Park.
Lucien Cyr worked to smooth and edit the video, to even out some of the bumpy road footage. Luc provided invaluable assistance in editing and preparing the video loop for presentation.
